Freedom caretaking

Freedom in its many forms may come from doing something as simple as finding work in a dream-like setting, or a house that is, for the most part, yours to live in and do with as you please. I have found jobs like this in a newspaper called...

Community

Intentional communities, collectives, communes; we have all heard the stories about "commune cults" like Heavens Gate, and Jonestown; no doubt these were outrages that should not be tolerated, but these are only remembered because of the shock value they carry. There are thousands of commune upstarts that have gone out with much less in the way of publicity. To totally dismiss the idea of people living in an intentional community setting because of the few the media choose to illustrate, (usually only attractive because of some freak-like quality they think will give them copy) is selling the idea a bit short.

Freedom on a Raft

I have seen some people are going out to sea in the search for freedom, some by sailboat some by way of raft. There is a guy I read about online they call "Pop Neutrino". He has a pretty interesting story. I guess he was out of work and needed to pay the rent but didn't have it. Instead of freaking out about it ( or maybe while freaking out about it) he built himself a raft out of garbage for his family and himself to live on. I guess he wasn't to interested in looks though, he wanted it to look like the trash it was as a kind of political statement. You can check it out yourself with the link in his name up there ^.

I think it's fantastic this guy had the guts to do what he did, few among us would be so bold, I think. People want so much to fit in. That's just the opposite of this sort of thing. He wants to be noticed as someone who can make a change with what others cast aside. If more of us could step out of line a little, things would be very different indeed.

I have considered this idea for myself as well. I think it truly must be one of the last refuges of freedom. The only reason I haven't started building yet is a lack of location and material. I was in Burlington Vt. while he was there but he had developed a bit of a following in the local area and I was cautious about so large a group in a relatively small town. I would rather set something up and have it working before there is a bunch of press in the picture.

This is a prime example of thinking of ways to get free.

Looking for Freedom

Clearing up room to think is a difficult prospect. If my brain is already at capacity then there is little space left to dedicate to self improvement. This is the most challenging aspect of really making a solid turn to being more like who I would like to be.

Not Without My Permission

I want to think today about the effect music has on us. The old saw is pretty true that “Music soothes the savage beast”. Effects can be seen in the way we get lost in a song, or the way our mood can take a turn for the worse if we hear something we aren't a particularly fond of. Music has a way of penetrating all bounds, race, class, or gender. We respond to it on a sort of basic level, we may or may not think about...

New Ways Of Thinking

One of the first things I was thinking of doing to become more of who I want to be is to quit smoking. Besides the cost, I have been feeling worse than usual for the effort. I have done several things to try to curb my intake over the 23 years I have been smoking. There is always the “cold turkey” method and I have been successful for short periods of time with this but they seem to be most effective when accompanied by a religious experience, and while that's fine if it works for you, I am currently uninterested in this approach although I have found success this way in the past...

Freedom

Freedom

I think we all have our own Ideas about what freedom is, do you know what freedom is to you? To me it's being able to do what I want and decide how I think. I am free to challenge...
